Applies To: eDispatches SMS Text Messaging & Mobile App Users
Due to mobile carrier restrictions, text alerts are limited to 160 characters. To avoid truncated messages and carrier delays, we strongly recommend transitioning to the eDispatches Mobile App.
Character Limitations for Text Alerts
Text alerts sent through mobile carriers display only the first 160 characters. Any information beyond this limit is cut off.
Administrator Action: Account administrators can use the Parsing for Text Display feature in the portal to remove unnecessary data and move critical dispatch details to the front of the message.
Managing Text Subscriptions (SMS Commands)
- Stop All Texts: Reply or text STOP to 4401 to opt out of all eDispatches text alerts.
- Start All Texts: Reply or text START to 4401 to resume receiving text alerts.
- Stop Specific Agency Texts: Log in to your user profile portal and disable text alerts for that specific department.
Recommended Alternative: eDispatches Mobile App
While text messaging is supported, the eDispatches iOS and Android app provides a more reliable experience for CAD messages without carrier restrictions.
App vs. Text Messaging Comparison
- Full CAD Details: Receive complete dispatch messages without the 160-character truncation.
- Integrated Mapping: Access direct mapping and turn-by-turn navigation for faster response times.
- Bypass Carrier Filters: App push notifications avoid carrier spam filters that can delay or block SMS texts.
- Extended Features: View complete call history, audio replays, and department details.
