Reset Uniden Scanner

Step-by-step instructions for performing a factory reset and re-programming the dispatch frequency on Uniden Bearcat BC355C and BC355N analog scanner units.

How to Reset & Re-Program the Uniden BC355 Scanner

Please read through all steps completely before attempting the reset sequence.

1. Power Off & Unplug Audio: Turn the scanner power knob off and disconnect the audio cable from the rear EXT SP jack.
2. Initiate Reset Key Combination: Press and hold the L/O and PROG buttons simultaneously.
3. Power On to Clear: While holding down L/O and PROG, turn the scanner volume knob clockwise to power the unit on. The display screen will show CLEAR.
4. Release Buttons: Release the L/O and PROG buttons. The scanner is now restored to factory-default settings.

5. Clear Service Bands:

   • Press the PD/FD/EMG button 3 times.
   • Press the AIR/MRN button 3 times.
   • Press the CB button 1 time.

   Verification Check: You should now see all zeros displayed across the screen center. If not, power off the unit and restart at Step 1.

6. Select Frequency Band: Press the BAND button repeatedly until the frequency range containing your agency's dispatch frequency displays on screen. The scanner will begin automatically scanning frequencies within that band.
7. Hold Frequency: When the displayed frequency approaches your agency's dispatch frequency, press the HOLD button once to pause active scanning.
8. Set Exact Frequency: Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to manually adjust the display to your exact dispatch frequency.
9. Save to Memory Bank:
   • Press PROG.
   • Press PRIVATE.
   • Press PROG.
10. Adjust Audio Controls:
    • Set the Volume dial to the 10 o'clock position.
    • Adjust the Squelch dial to the point where background static stops (the 12 o'clock position is recommended).
11. Perform Live Signal Test: Have your dispatch center transmit a test page. Confirm that the broadcast audio plays clearly through the scanner speaker.
12. Reconnect Audio Cable: Re-insert the audio cable into the EXT SP jack on the back of the scanner.

Tip: We strongly recommend placing a label on the scanner and detector stating "DO NOT TOUCH" to prevent accidental frequency displacement.
